Taking an online high school course can be a great way for students to:
- Make up credits: Retake a failed class, complete courses that didn’t transfer, or fulfill specific graduation requirements to stay on track with online classes for credit.
- Resolve scheduling conflicts: Online courses offer more flexibility, being a good fit for students who work or have other obligations during regular school hours.
For example, at Fusion Global Academy, online classes can be scheduled between 5:30AM–11:30PM Eastern Time, allowing families to accommodate school around sports, theatre programs, part-time jobs, family commitments, and other courses.
- Accelerate studies: Students who want to get ahead or graduate early can use online courses to earn additional credits beyond what their current school can offer.
At Fusion Academy, our private online high school helps students achieve all that and more by personalizing not only their schedules, but the classroom experience itself.
First, we have over 230 different courses that students can take for high school credit. These include the core classes for English, math, history, and science, as well as a wide variety of world language courses and electives.
Second, our classes have a 1:1 student-to-teacher ratio. This means our teachers have the time to personalize the curriculum for students, teaching the lesson while also helping students develop better executive functioning skills (like organization and scheduling) that can benefit them not just in school, but across all avenues of life.
Our personalized learning approach has been shown to be effective in helping high school students prepare for college. For example, out of our 2024 graduating class:
- 99% of applicants were accepted to a 4-year college.
- 87% of Fusion students attended their first-choice college.
- 58% received merit scholarships, with an average award of $51,547.
Further, Fusion Academy’s impact goes beyond academics. Our personalized, 1-to-1 approach helps students feel seen and heard. After just three months at Fusion, students report feeling more supported — both academically and emotionally — while forming stronger social connections with their peers. It’s not just about where students go after attending Fusion; it’s about who they become while they’re here.

How Fusion Academy’s Online Courses for Credit Program Works
Fusion Global Academy offers a 100% online school experience. Our courses are fully accredited and we offer several different course types, including:
- Essential courses: These courses fulfill graduation requirements, but are less intensive than the options below. Essential courses are best suited for students focused on earning the required high school credits rather than preparing for college-level work.
- College Preparatory courses: This curriculum provides the standard academic foundation for students pursuing college admission after high school.
- Honors courses: These courses offer advanced, challenging coursework for students seeking greater academic depth.
- AP® courses: These are college-level courses in which students can earn college credit upon successful completion of the AP® exam.
Students can customize their school schedule by mixing and matching course types based on individual strengths and areas for growth. For example, a student might take an Essential English course to build writing skills while enrolling in a College Prep science course in an area of confidence. The reverse is also possible: choosing a College Prep course in a more challenging subject, supported by personalized mentorship from the teacher to ensure steady progress and understanding.
Plus, unlike other online programs where students are likely to be one of many students in a virtual classroom, Fusion Academy’s online courses pair students with a single teacher in a dedicated virtual space. This means:
- The teacher can adapt lessons in real-time based on how the student learns best.
- The student can ask questions without feeling embarrassed in front of peers.
- The pace adjusts to the student’s needs — spending more time on challenging concepts or moving quickly through material they’ve already mastered.
- Teachers can integrate student interests into lessons to keep them engaged and excited about learning.
We also offer small online group courses, where 2–5 students are enrolled in a course at the same time.
Customized Online Programs
At Fusion, students can further personalize the learning experience by enrolling in individual courses for credit or a full semester’s workload, with the flexibility to take classes entirely online or combine online and in-person learning on a Fusion Academy campus.
Individual Courses for Credit
If students just need to make up one or two courses, they can enroll in individual classes for credit while staying at their current school. This is perfect for:
- Credit recovery after failing a course
- Making up missed credits due to illness or other circumstances
- Taking a course that their current school doesn’t offer
- Getting ahead in a subject where they excel
Fusion offers high school English courses (from grade 9 to 12), history courses, math courses (starting with pre-algebra and going up to calculus and trigonometry), language courses (including American Sign Language, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish), and much more.
See our full list of available high school courses here.
Full-Time Online Program
Fusion Global Academy also offers a full-time online high school program.
At our online academy, students get the same 1-to-1 personalized education and flexible scheduling options described above with the added benefit of learning from anywhere. Full-time high school students can also sign up for a complimentary post-secondary counseling session designed to support their college application planning.
Hybrid Learning Options
Some students thrive with a blend of online and in-person learning. With more than 80 Fusion campuses nationwide, it’s possible to begin online and add in-person classes later, or design a customized schedule that includes both learning formats.
How Our One-to-One Method Helps Students with Learning Differences
If traditional classrooms haven’t worked for your student, Fusion’s one-to-one online model can be particularly beneficial. Our teachers are experienced in working with students who have:
- ADHD and attention challenges (our blog post on helping students with ADHD and our podcast on ADHD)
- Dyslexia and reading difficulties (see our podcast on dyslexia in the classroom)
- Autism spectrum disorders (see a list of the best private schools for autism)
- Anxiety that makes traditional classrooms overwhelming (our blog post on how to help a child with school anxiety and our podcast on school anxiety)
In the one-to-one online setting, our teachers can:
- Provide breaks when students need them without disrupting other students
- Adjust the pace and presentation style in real-time
- Help students develop executive functioning skills like organization and time management
- Create a judgment-free environment where students feel safe to ask questions
Open Enrollment and Flexible Scheduling
Fusion’s online classes can be scheduled Monday through Friday, from early morning to late evening (5:30 AM to 11:30 PM Eastern Time). This flexibility means students can:
- Accommodate work, sports, or other commitments
- Take courses around their current school schedule
- Learn during the hours when they’re most focused and motivated
A Virtual Learning Environment for Online High School Students
Fusion Academy’s Global Homework Café

- FGA Student Community: Where student life programming, such as student meetings, movie nights, contests, and more, takes place.
An Active Virtual Community for High School Students
Many students worry that online learning means losing social connections. Fusion’s virtual community includes:
- Student-led clubs: Students can join the Dungeons & Dragons club, cooking club, gaming groups, and more.
- Virtual events: Students can participate in activities that connect them with peers from across all Fusion campuses and virtual classrooms.
- Collaborative projects: Students can work with peers on assignments and projects.
