Our Mission

Guided by a fundamental belief in the immense potential within every person, our mission is to help each student flourish – emotionally, socially, and academically – through positive, mentoring relationships and a personalized education experience.

Our History

Michelle Rose Gilman founded Fusion Academy out of frustration with the status quo, and a need for personalized education in her community. What began with one campus in Solana Beach, California in 1989 expanded to add a Los Angeles campus in 2010 through the help of what is now Fusion Education Group. Since then, Fusion has expanded to over 80 campuses across the country and changes the lives of thousands of families each year.

Our One-to-One Learning Model

Personalized Education

Students learn best when they feel safe, cared for, engaged, and confident in themselves as learners. We believe positive, authentic relationships are the key to unlocking the incredible potential each and every student has.

Classes at Fusion are one-to-one: one student and one teacher per classroom. This allows teachers to personalize course content for each student’s strengths, interests, and learning style. Our thoughtfully designed approach of love, motivate, teach, sets a strong foundation of trust and understanding.

Our Education Philosophy:

1

Love:
The foundation of everything we do is our relationships-based approach. Students must first feel safe and understood to learn, which happens through a trusting, authentic relationship with their teacher.

2

Motivate:
After a trusting relationship is built, teachers know more about what motivates their student, and the student is open to learning what motivates them. Our teachers keep students engaged, inspired, and excited about learning.

3

Teach:
All teaching is personalized to the student’s strengths, interests, and learning preferences. Our teachers ensure a student truly learns the material before moving on to new topics (mastery learning).

Social-Emotional Learning at Fusion Academy

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of our students learning social-emotional skills. At Fusion Academy it is foundational to our approach. We design our programs to support their academic, social, and emotional development and we’re proud to say that our students receive support and guidance as they confront the complexities of social and emotional development.

Full School Experience

On each Fusion campus we have two Homework Café spaces: one quiet and one social. These spaces are not only for students to complete homework during their school day, but the Social Homework Café acts as the social hub of the campus. This is where student meetings occur, clubs meet, and more. The space is led by the Director of Homework Café who is responsible for planning social programming around Social Emotional Learning themes.

Campuses plan events like prom, graduation, field trips, and more so students get a full school experience in a personalized environment.
