Equipping Students with Social-Emotional Skills for Success

We understand that life after high school can become challenging and complex, and our goal is to prepare students by equipping them with the social-emotional skills they’ll need for success. Students will encounter a host of experiences that they need to be prepared to manage beyond academics. Our Wellness Program rounds out the instructional experience for our students, providing a greater balance, by offering holistic opportunities for social, emotional, and personal growth. This is why in addition to state graduation requirements, Fusion necessitates all graduating students complete a semester of Wellness. Like all programs at Fusion, the Wellness Program is fully customized to each student. Learn more about the four areas our Wellness Program covers below.

Art Expression

Art Expression sessions encourage self- expression through the visual arts and emphasize the positive effects of the creative process. Students work with a variety of materials to create visual representations of their thoughts and feelings as a means to:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Explore difficult emotions
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Challenge intellect

Music Expression

In our professional recording studio, students can open themselves to the therapeutic benefits of music. In Music Expression sessions, students use instruments, voice and various recording techniques to explore and create. These sessions:

  •  Stimulate the mind and increase focus
  • Combat depression
  • Reduce heart rate and blood pressure
  • Promote sound sleep

Physical Wellness

Maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle has so many benefits. In our Physical Wellness sessions, yoga and meditation unite body and mind to help students relax and manage stress. Nutrition is also addressed and students examine the benefits of healthy eating. These sessions:

  • Increase self-confidence
  • Build strength, balance and flexibility
  • Improve self-control
  • Develop healthy eating habits

Healthy Habits

Adolescence is a challenging time. Our Healthy Habits sessions equip students with effective tools to navigate a range of issues. Students learn to:

  • Solve problems creatively and assertively
  • Cope positively with demands and challenges
  • Form healthy relationships with others
  • Achieve physical, mental and emotional balance

Setting Students Up for Life Success

Another Fusion graduation requirement is our Life Skills course. This class is typically taken during a student’s senior year, and helps students prepare for life after high school, whatever their path may be. There are three general tracks, but the entire class is tailored to each student’s strengths and growth areas. Below are some examples from each track, and more about the final project: the Senior Portfolio. Both the student and their family can have input on what the course should cover based on their goals.

  • Time Management
  • Goal Setting
  • Transportation
  • Stress Management
  • Computer Skills
  • Personal Care

Real World

Senior Portfolio

In the Life Skills class students will put together their Senior Portfolio. This is a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on their education up until now and what their future holds.

Prepare For College in High School

Fusion Endorsements prove student commitment to a field of study before graduating. Students receive additional credibility on their transcripts, which position them above students who have only completed minimum requirements for graduation. Beyond honors, these Endorsements are crafted to prepare students for college course materials before stepping foot on campus. In addition to endorsement-specific requirements, students earn at least 250 credits to graduate with the Endorsement of their choice.

Endorsement Options*

  • STEM
  • STEM-Technology
  • World Language
  • Humanities
  • Visual & Performing Arts
  • Leadership

*The state of Texas recognizes certain endorsements, so all Fusion Texas campuses follow the Texas endorsement plan. Contact your campus to learn more.

A Broad and Holistic Definition of Success

The goal of Fusion Academy is to launch individuals with the capacity to lead an authentic life and leave their own unique mark on the world. Strong test scores and matriculation to college or work can be indicators of success, but they are not the sole, or even primary benchmarks against which we measure the success. We use multiple measures of success to build a robust understanding of each student from academic outcomes to well-being and life satisfaction.

How Fusion Academy Measures Success

More Than Grades

We use multiple measures of success to build a robust understanding of each student from academic outcomes to well-being and life satisfaction. This includes testing, student surveys, parent surveys, and ongoing communication.

Reports and Updates

Parents receive daily updates from each class. Teachers will summarize what was covered and address anything important that came up during the session. There are also monthly progress reports and quarterly re-assessments of student goals.

Student and Family Impact

Each year we collect input from students and parents to compile our annual Education Impact Report. We are incredibly proud of the life-changing success our students and families experience.

Fusion is accredited and awards diplomas to students who meet graduation requirements.

Getting To the Cap and Gown

Graduating from high school takes perseverance – and adherence to state- mandated graduation requirements. Every state is different, so we encourage parents and students to actively discuss their goals with our administrative team to develop a plan for graduation and beyond.

Graduation at Fusion

The Fusion graduation ceremony is unique and highlights each and every graduate. Each student’s lead teacher will say a few words about them and each student also has an opportunity to speak if they so choose. For a glimpse into a Fusion Graduation, click here.

College Prep

Fusion students pursue a range of goals, with many moving on to a 4-year college or university. For these students, the Life Skills course helps them prepare for their next challenge. Depending on the individual student, the teacher may help the student with: SAT/ACT prep, identifying prospective colleges, application process and essay writing, and further development of essential academic skills and study habits.

Career/Life Prep

Everyone has a different path – and it doesn’t always lead to college. For students with other plans in mind, the Life Skills course is customized to prepare them to reach their next goal – whatever that might be. Teachers often help students with: Goal-setting and future-mapping, resume writing, and interpersonal skills development.

The End is Just the Beginning

While each student has their own success story, one thing is true for all Fusion students: our goal is to help them discover and pursue their own unique path. For some students this means a four-year college or university, for others it is a specialized school or gap year.

Fusion students have been accepted to over 200 colleges and universities.

For Fusion students, long-term enrollment at Fusion is associated with increased confidence and a strengthened vision for their academic future.

In 2019, Fusion students reported that the longer they are enrolled at Fusion, the more likely they are to develop plans for their future.
