Best Online High Schools Near Me

Many students choose online high school because they feel more comfortable learning from home or simply need to finish a course or two to graduate.

It used to be that they were only two types of online high schools:

  • Virtual replications of a standard high school classroom. Many online schools are virtual versions of traditional classrooms — your child goes from being one of thirty students in a physical room to one of thirty in a virtual room. The only real difference is the format, which may offer more flexible scheduling, like evening or weekend classes.
  • Pre-recorded, self-navigated modules. With these online schools, students log in and complete pre-recorded lessons. If they have questions or are struggling with a concept, there’s usually a teacher they can message. Although, the feedback is not immediate and does not come from a teacher who understands the student’s learning style.

But while the methods above give students scheduling flexibility, they don’t solve the other issues with online schooling and education in general, such as how to keep a student engaged, how to personalize the material toward the student’s needs and pace, or how to help the student through difficult material.

At Fusion Academy, we do online school differently. We pair a flexible online high school with highly personalized instruction. Our courses can be one-to-one or in small groups of 2–5 students. This allows the teacher to cater lesson plans toward the student — spending more time on subjects where the student is struggling, and moving ahead confidently when the student is ready. This one-to-one and small class model also helps keep students engaged since they’re interacting directly with the teacher. Further, our teachers also help students with executive functioning skills such as time management, organization, and more.

Unlike standalone online schools, our online school is a well-rounded program, with:

Fusion Academy: The Online School That Changes Everything

Fusion Global Academy homepage: 100% Online School

Fusion Academy has a fully accredited online high school program that is designed to help all types of students, including students with learning differences, fulfill graduate requirements and grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

At the heart of our model is one-to-one learning. In our online sessions, this means one student and one teacher work together in a dedicated Zoom classroom. Each session combines academic instruction with meaningful check-ins — allowing the teacher to assess how the student is progressing both academically and emotionally. Lessons are fully personalized, with real-time feedback and support that helps students stay engaged and confident in their learning.

Fusion Academy’s personalized approach to education empowers students to thrive while preparing them for whatever comes next.

For example, with our 2024 graduating class:

  • 99% of our students who applied to college were accepted, with 87% attending their first-choice college.
  • 58% of Fusion graduates received merit scholarships, demonstrating how academically prepared they were for college.

Overall, our students have gained admission to top universities including Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and Georgetown. But, success at Fusion isn’t defined by one path. Some students pursue careers, gap years, or entrepreneurial ventures. Whatever their next step, they leave Fusion confident and prepared.

Further, Fusion Academy’s impact goes beyond academics. Our personalized, 1-to-1 approach helps students feel seen and supported. After just three months at Fusion, students report feeling more supported — both academically and emotionally — and forming stronger social connections with their peers. It’s not just about where students go after attending Fusion; it’s about who they become while they’re here.

A Customized Learning Plan Tailored to Your Student

With Fusion Academy, there are several ways to personalize your student’s online high school experience.

First, Fusion has several different course types:

  • Essential courses are accredited courses that fulfill the requirements needed for a high school diploma, but don’t have the academic rigor of a college preparatory course.
  • College Prep courses are standard high school classes that prepare students for college.
  • Honors courses are more academically intensive and require a student to put in more time.
  • AP® courses are academically rigorous courses that prepare students for an AP® exam. If the student scores high enough on the AP® exam, they’ll get college credit.

Second, you can take both 1-to-1 classes and small group classes.

1-to-1 courses offer the most personalization and it’s this class structure that is the foundation of Fusion Academy’s unique learning model. But some students may prefer to collaborate in small groups, especially for specific classes where they may want to learn and work alongside their peers on class material.

Students may also mix and match levels and class types, so a student can take a one-to-one AP® english course, if that’s where they are strongest, and a small group geometry course.

Whether you choose 1-to-1 or small groups, you get:

  • Flexible scheduling: Our online classes can be scheduled, Monday – Friday, from the early morning to late at night (between 5:30 AM and 11:30 PM Eastern Time).
  • Daily feedback: Teachers send out updates every day on how your child did in class, where they succeeded the most, and where they have opportunities to grow. This helps create an ecosystem of support and transparency, which is key for online schooling to be successful.
  • Scheduled time in the Global Homework Café: This is a dedicated virtual space where students can work independently with teacher support or collaboratively with peers. Students come to the Global Homework Café when they need help or motivation to complete homework.

Plus, Fusion Academy has open enrollment, so you don’t have to wait for the beginning of spring or fall semester for your child to begin their education.

You can view our most recent course catalog here, or contact us to see if we have the online classes you’re interested in.

How Fusion’s One-to-One Approach Helps Students With Learning Differences

Fusion Academy’s one-to-one learning approach is a great fit for neurodivergent students, such as students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, or sensory processing disorder.

In more traditional online classrooms, it’s common for students to disengage from the class, especially when a learning difference is making it harder for them to focus. They can work with their camera off and their teacher can think they understand a subject when they don’t. Since the teacher is tasked with keeping the class on a set schedule, they are limited in how much time and personalization they can give just one of their students. If a student is trying to engage with the material and is struggling, they might miss out on the support they need.

For plenty of students, this change in environment is enough to bring out academic growth and self-confidence. They don’t feel as pressured or alone in their learning, rather, they feel supported and are offered the tools to succeed.

For example, if a teacher notices a student’s lack of organization skills — whether it’s keeping track of assignments, managing their files, or maintaining a productive workspace at home — they’ll step in with personalized strategies to help the student build better habits.

In the online one-to-one setting, these challenges don’t go unnoticed. The teachers have the flexibility to support executive functioning skills alongside academic content.
