A School That Cares

At her last school Katie didn't care, and it was because she didn't feel like they cared about her. That changed when she started at Fusion.

In middle school, Katie doesn't remember hearing any positive affirmation from her teachers. During her freshman year at her last school, Katie cared more about her social life than her grades.

“Katie's one of my favorite students to talk about because her change was so dramatic.”- Amy Baur, Fusion Los Gatos Head of School

When she started at Fusion, she still didn't really care about school. She says herself that she was hostile at first, but her teachers worked with her and she began to soften.

“They were very patient with me, which was the biggest thing.” – Katie

A friend of Katie's passed away, and she was able to receive the support she needed. Her teachers were there for her, and she says that's one of her best memories.

“They take the time to get to know you and care about you...They want you to actually understand the material, not just get a grade and move on.” – Katie

Katie graduated from Fusion Academy Los Gatos in June of 2019.

“The remarkable thing about Katie has just been watching over the last three years that she actually really cares about school now, and she isn't embarassed to be smart or to be good at things. She's exactly what you would hope happens for a Fusion student over their time here.” – Amy Baur
