Fusion Education Group Opens Its Seventh DC-Area Academy

RESTON, Va. August 17, 2021 – Northern Virginia families have a new school option; Fusion Academy is opening a campus in Reston on August 30th and is now enrolling students for its first academic school year where it will offer middle and high school students its unique, personalized, one-to-one learning model of one student and one teacher for each class.

Fusion Academy Reston’s opening was fueled by continued strong demand from families seeking neighborhood schools that put their children’s learning first. The Reston school becomes the fourth Fusion Academy in Northern Virginia, joining campuses in Alexandria, Leesburg, and Vienna.

“We have families who have been waiting in the wings for us to bring our personalized learning model closer to home,” said Jeff Poole, President of Fusion Academy “Fusion Reston joins a strong network of DC-area schools that continue to receive extraordinary parent accolades.”

Founded in San Diego, California in 1989, Fusion’s approach to learning is grounded in its one-to-one model of one teacher to one student, with different teachers for different classes. Fusion Academy offers unparalleled academic, emotional, and social support; its education model helps middle and high school students master subjects and rediscover their love of learning.

Joseph Casamassima leads the Reston team as the Area Head of School, a role he has served at three Fusion Academies, most recently in Vienna, Va.

“I always tell parents, you have to see us to believe us,” Casamassima said, who added parents’ initial disbelief transforms to awe when they see Fusion’s impact on their children. “We believe in three steps, love, motivate, and teach. Our one-to-one model makes us unique, our connection with students and ability to empower them is what makes Fusion exceptional.”

Fusion teachers personalize instruction for student strengths, interests, and learning preferences. Schedules are also customized so students take classes at a time of day that works best for them. Athletes, actors, and students with extracurricular passions can schedule school around their life instead of the other way around. Other students who attend Fusion include gifted or accelerated students, students with mild learning differences, or anyone looking for a more personalized learning environment.

Each Fusion campus features Homework Café spaces where students complete homework before leaving for the day. The cafés are also the student social hub; where student meetings occur, clubs meet, and more. Fusion campuses also feature a state-of-the-art recording studio, a mixed-media art studio, and a science lab with college-level tools. Fusion Academies are intended to remain small, serve as a haven from large traditional schools and rarely exceed 100 students. Students can attend Fusion full-time for middle and high school, or part-time for tutoring, classes for credit, or college counseling. Fusion students have been accepted to more than 200 unique colleges and universities, many being their first-choice school

“Opening a new school in a new community is a magical time. Our schools serve as a beacon of hope for students who have been disengaged in traditional settings. We are privileged to join families on their children’s learning journey,” Casamassima said.

Fusion Academy recently assessed parent loyalty and its scores were higher than comparable customer loyalty scores of iconic brands like Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Coca-Cola. Fusion’s presence in the National Capital Region includes its four Virginia campuses, one campus in Washington, D.C., and two Maryland academies located in Rockville and Columbia.
