Fusion Academy Mission Viejo Celebrates
School of the Year Award

(Mission Viejo, Calif. – August 31, 2021) In a year when nearly everything turned upside down, Fusion Academy’s Mission Viejo campus received exceptional parent and employee satisfaction scores for which it was recently awarded “School of the Year.

“Our students really needed a place to feel welcome, included, and safe. And they found it here,” said Venessa Kayrell, Fusion Academy Mission Viejo campus Head of School. “This award means the world to us. I am so grateful to be a part of the Fusion Mission Viejo family and proud to have the honor of working with our amazingly talented teachers and dedicated staff.”

Fusion Academy Mission Viejo is part of Fusion Education Group (FEG) an organization committed to one-to-one education. Fusion’s learning model of one teacher to one student helps middle and high school students rediscover their love of learning. With one student and one teacher per classroom, and different teachers for different subjects, the entire learning journey is personalized for each student.

“This recognition reflects the unwavering commitment to students by our entire Mission Viejo team – together they thrived through a pandemic!” says Peter Ruppert, Chief Executive Officer of FEG. “Many thanks to our families, our students, and our community partners who supported our team. We are starting a new school year stronger than ever.”

During the most disruptive school year in recent memory due to the COVID pandemic, Fusion Education Group (FEG) measured parent satisfaction scores. Parents rated FEG higher than equivalent customer satisfaction scores for iconic brands like Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Coca-Cola. Fusion Academy Mission Viejo received some of the FEG’s highest parent and employee satisfaction scores.

Kayrell has overseen the Fusion Academy Mission Viejo campus since 2017. She joined Fusion when the campus opened in 2011 as a math and science teacher. The campus was one of the first Fusion Academies in California. Fusion Academy Mission Viejo will start the current school year with 50 full-time students: small schools are a hallmark of Fusion Academy. Nationally, Fusion graduates have been accepted at more than 200 colleges and universities.

“Our Fusion Academy campuses became a haven during a time of profound uncertainty,” said Kayrell. “All parents, including myself, want a learning environment that is safe and inspiring, full of fun and connectedness. When all of that is grounded in consistency, our students truly flourish.”

Fusion Academy Mission Viejo is one of the select few recently recognized at the company’s annual meeting. The School of Year Awards are the company’s equivalent of the Oscars and celebrate campus teachers and staff. Award winners were nominated by school leaders across the Fusion Education Group, which includes more than 80 schools – grounded in its individualized education model – throughout the country.

The Mission Viejo Campus is one of 10 Fusion Academies in Southern California, and 17 throughout the state. Previous California Fusion Academy School of the Year award winners include Los Gatos, South Bay, and Los Angeles.

The continued demand for personalized learning is the impetus for Fusion Education Group’s continued growth. Fusion Academy is scheduled to open its 18th California campus this January in Santa Barbara and is currently enrolling students virtually. Fusion Academy Santa Barbara will offer a new flexible learning model that combines three learning modalities including one-to-one learning, asynchronous digital, and small group project-based classes. Fusion Academy will also open its first schools in the states of Minnesota and Tennessee later this upcoming school year.
