Anatomy & Physiology

Great for the student who loved the human body unit from their biology class. Explore all the systems of the body in the context of homeostasis, how they work together, diseases, and development. A rigorous life science course where the student should be ready to investigate how his or her own body works in the lab, as well as participate in dissections.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is a two semester elective that introduces the student to the chemistry of carbon-containing compounds. Topics will include structure, nomenclature, and synthesis of the major class of organic compounds. A non-mathematical, mechanistic approach is used in this course. This course is designed for an advanced chemistry student and will lay a solid foundation for college organic chemistry.

This course covers all of the same concepts as Chemistry, including measurement, lab technique, atomic theory, kinetics, forces and reactions, and nuclear chemistry; it simplifies the more challenging mathematics. Students investigate the same topics and complete identical or comparable labs to meet the same learning outcomes through a more hands-on and accessible learning experience. This course emphasizes chemistry applications such as food science, health, and medicine.

This advanced course not only shows the student how scientific concepts are the basis for applications to real world problems, but allows students to experience and experiment with these principles. Geometry concepts are used to show the design of aerofoils and low-friction projectiles. Students are expected to design, build, test, and finalize real projects with actual function.

College prep only in Texas.

This course focuses on the interactions between matter and energy found in Earth systems, and how different systems affect the biosphere. Students learn the foundation of most scientific topics, such the periodic table, atomic structure, and types of energy. They apply those principles to study the composition of the Earth, particularly properties of rocks and minerals. Other topics include biogeochemical systems, chemical reaction fundamentals, acid-base chemistry, and ecology.

“How can changes in the Earth and its systems be explained through universal laws?” To answer this question, students study the universal laws of nature, including gas laws, conservation of momentum and energy, natural phenomena in the atmosphere, processes such as photosynthesis and respiration that transfer and convert energy, homeostasis in ecosystems and organisms, biochemical reactions and reaction rates, evolution and adaptation, and genetic engineering.

Regents Lab Course

The Regents Lab Course is offered for each of the four main high school science courses- Earth & Space Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The course is designed to provide NY students with the lab hours required to sit for the New York Regents Exam in the corresponding subject. The Regents Lab Course for Biology addresses the state-made labs that appear on the state test as well as supplemental labs covering a broad range of topics in Biology. The Regents Lab Course for Earth & Space Science teaches students the skills tested on the Regents Exam as well as other foundational lab skills. The Regents Lab Courses for Chemistry and Physics provide opportunities for students to explore a multitude of topics in the various disciplines. This course is graded as pass/fail.

Zoology is the study of animals from the sponge to the elephant. Zoologists study everything from the single cell to the entire organism and population of any given animal - taking into consideration the larger environmental conditions in which animals live. Similar to foundational science courses, Zoology is dependent upon understanding the basic nuts and bolts of how life functions.
