Education

Nautica Savage graduated summa cum laude with her bachelor’s degree at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, studying creative writing and Asian studies; she spent a year in Japan for study abroad and traveled across East and Southeast Asia for a fellowship. She then received her master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and wrote a thesis on a woman samurai with translations from medieval Japanese to English.

Experience

Nautica tutored, mentored, and TA’d throughout her undergraduate and graduate years for the TRiO Student Services Programs as Head Writing Consultant and as an ESOL tutor and instructor. She went on to teach English as a foreign language in Tsu-shi, Japan, teaching at four schools from kindergarten to junior high.

Fun Facts and Hobbies

  • Has lived near one of the original ninja towns, the F1 circuit, and the largest castle in Japan
  • Has written her own original fiction and fantasy novels since middle school
