Mayerlin, the Assistant Director for the Fusion Academy Southlake campus, brings fun and excitement to learning. Her main roles are to ensure a robust academic program and support teachers in their growth and development. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical and Social Science from the University of Texas at Arlington. Mayerlin pursued her passion in STEM education by participating in organizations such as the Multicultural Mavericks, National Space Society, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She participated in many events such as FIRST Robotics Competitions, Battle of the Rockets, and Engineering Saturdays. By her senior year, she served as the President of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. One of her proudest achievements was creating a high school outreach program to help bring STEM awareness to Hispanic communities. It was then when she discovered her love for educating and mentoring students.
Mayerlin carries that passion to Fusion, which she joined in 2016 as a math and science teacher/mentor. She makes class fun and engaging for students while also providing a challenging and rigorous learning experience. Mayerlin helps students apply their learning outside of the classroom by working on various hands-on projects such as building rockets, baking pizza, creating stained glass art, and designing 3D printing models.
In addition to teaching, Mayerlin also served as Math Department Head for three years and later transitioned to Science Head Department. Mayerlin now shines her light on campus as the Assistant Director.
In her free time, Mayerlin enjoys off-roading in her Jeep and camping with her family. Mayerlin and her husband are ant enthusiasts, so going camping is not only a fun adventure, but also a great time to go ant hunting! Aside from insects, she also loves reptiles and plans to grow her family with some scaly new friends!
