Many bright students with ADHD understand new concepts quickly but still struggle to stay organized, manage their time, and complete assignments. This often leads parents, educators, and students to wonder, “If they’re so smart, why can’t they just do the work?” The answer lies not in motivation or intelligence, but in the way ADHD affects executive functioning.

During this informative session, Dr. Jackson will explore why intelligent students with ADHD experience these challenges, how executive functioning deficits impact academic success, and the emotional toll these struggles can take. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of ADHD and practical insights to better support students both in and out of the classroom.

About the Speaker

Dr. Carrie Jackson is a licensed clinical child psychologist and the founder of SoCal Child Psychology in La Jolla, a private practice specializing in ADHD and anxiety. She earned her PhD in Psychology from West Virginia University, completed her predoctoral internship at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Jackson has taught graduate-level child therapy courses at the University of San Diego, published peer-reviewed resources, and creates educational content to support parents raising children with ADHD.
