“Demand Avoidant or Autonomy Seeking?: Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance “
Join us for our April Lunch & Learn “Demand Avoidant or Autonomy Seeking?: Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance” with Dr. Amy Merenda, Licensed Educational Psychologist and Founder of Blooming Brains Educational Psychology Inc.
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a neurodivergent profile with unique characteristics that can affect how children respond to everyday expectations and is often recognized through specific behaviors observed at home and at school. Children with PDA frequently experience everyday demands as overwhelming, largely due to a strong need for autonomy. In this discussion, we will explore supportive strategies that can help reduce anxiety and resistance in students with PDA. Building trust and developing positive relationships are essential when supporting children with this profile, and families and educators often benefit from accessing helpful resources and support groups. We will conclude with a Q&A session and an opportunity for attendees to share their experiences.
Be sure to mark your calendars for this informative presentation! Lunch will be provided, so please RSVP below to let us know you’ll be joining us. We look forward to seeing you there!
