Education
Kate began her progressive education as a student at an independent school in Ohio. There she learned the power of individualized learning. She completed her undergraduate degree at Beloit College, creating her own major in Interdisciplinary Studies. She earned her Masters degree in education at Goddard College, also earning her teaching credentials. Later she earned her National Board Teaching Certificate in high school mathematics.
Experience
Kate has spent many years teaching in independent settings including at a Waldorf high school in Ann Arbor Michigan, and a small early childhood center in Michigan. Kate and her husband moved to Chicago in 2009 where she joined Chicago Public Schools, beginning as a high school math teacher and being promoted to network professional learning developer and then wider Central Office continuous improvement leadership. From 2016-2018 Kate was Head of School at GCE Lab School in Chicago, a high school specializing in project based learning. For the last 5 years, Kate has led the STE(A)M Schools team in Chicago Public Schools, supporting 43 district schools in their implementation of STE(A)M programming.
