Speaker Series: National Literacy Month

September is National Literacy Month

Join us at Fusion Academy Columbia for an in-person parent and community event in recognition of National Literacy Month. This conversation will focus on literacy development, academic assessments, and supporting students with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.

We are pleased to welcome Jennifer Wheat, M.Ed., who will share her expertise on how learning differences can impact a student’s academic experience and how families and educators can better understand the assessment and intervention process. This event is designed to provide helpful information for parents, caregivers, and professionals who want to better support students with reading, writing, spelling, and math-related challenges.

About the Speaker

Jennifer Wheat, M.Ed. is an Educational Specialist, Diagnostician, and Certified Structured Literacy Interventionist in Dyslexia at LINKZ, LLC in Columbia, Maryland. She has completed a Post Master’s Certificate specializing in Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia from Notre Dame of Maryland University in association with Jemicy School. In addition to assessing students for language-based learning differences, Jennifer also works as a trainer for bowman educational services, inc. training teachers and private tutors in Bowman’s Orton-Gillingham “Plus”, a highly systematic, multisensory, synthetic, and prescriptive structured literacy approach, which simultaneously builds reading, writing, and spelling skills.
