Raising Confident, Connected Teens: Understanding Gender Identity & Sexuality

Adolescence is a time of significant identity development, and many parents have questions about how to support their child while navigating conversations around gender identity and sexuality. This 30-minute educational presentation provides an evidence-based overview of key concepts, including the differences between biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Parents will gain a practical understanding of common terminology and pronouns, why affirming language can positively impact adolescent mental health, strategies for fostering open and respectful conversations at home, and guidance on when additional support from a mental health professional may be beneficial. The presentation is designed to be approachable, informative, and rooted in current clinical research, with time for questions at the end if desired.

Presenter: Jessie Ogienko, MSW, LCSW, CCTP, EMDR Certified Therapist & Consultant , Founder & CEO, Caladrius Therapy
