Lori Axford
Director of Education
Education
I have two bachelor’s degrees one in English and one in Theater—earning my Theater degree from the College of Charleston and my English degree from Georgia State University—where I also completed my Master’s degree in English Education.
Experience
I’ve been teaching for over 20 years and have been with Fusion for seven—this January marks the anniversary! For the past three years, I’ve served as Director of Education at our Upper West Side campus, and I’m now thrilled to join the Brooklyn team as Director of Education after spending the summer here as the Homework Café Teacher.
I began my career teaching English in a Lower Manhattan public school and have since taught in public, private, and charter settings, working with both middle and high school students.
My favorite place in education is Fusion—because of the incredible impact we can have on students through individualized learning. I truly love this community.
Fun Facts and Hobbies
- Outside of work, I have a senior in high school at home and two rescue pets: Pepper the cat and Kiki the dog (Pepper is Kiki’s emotional support animal!).
- I love to read and cook, spend plenty of time at the movies or watching TV, and never pass up a chance to see live music or travel somewhere new.
- Though I was born and raised in the South, I’ve called New York City home for 26 years and still love exploring every corner of the city.
