About This Event

Watching your child struggle socially is one of the hardest parts of parenting. The lunch table they don’t have a seat at. The group chat they got left out of. The friendship that turned on them without warning. Every instinct tells you to step in and make it right.

But most of the time you can’t fix it for them, and trying to often makes them feel more alone.

Megan Doherty, a licensed psychotherapist who works with adolescents and families, joins us for an evening on what actually helps. This is a practical conversation about how to stay close to your child through social pain without taking it over, how to tell the difference between normal friendship trouble and something that needs adult intervention, and how to build the kind of trust that keeps them talking to you when things get hard.

Come with your questions. There will be time for discussion.

What We’ll Talk About

  • Why fixing it can backfire, and what your child is actually asking for when they come to you
  • How to listen in a way that keeps the conversation going
  • Knowing when to step back and when to step in
  • Helping your child build social confidence at their own pace
  • Supporting a child who has been excluded, bullied, or is pulling away from friendships
  • Taking care of yourself when your child is hurting

Who Should Come

This event is open to Fusion Academy Raleigh families and to anyone in the community raising a middle or high school student. If you know a parent who could use this evening, please pass it along.
