Just like building a house, we don’t start with the roof—we start with the foundation. Each step of the S.C.A.F.F.O.L.D. framework strengthens that foundation. When parents build these skills consistently, everyday challenges become more manageable because they have a framework to guide them rather than simply reacting in the moment. Scaffolding isn’t about doing more for our children—it’s about supporting them in the right ways, at the right time, so they gradually need us less and trust themselves more.
Leading this Lunch and Learn is Susan Shulklapper, owner of Susan’s Strategies. Susan is a Parenting and Behavior Consultant with more than 25 years of experience partnering with families, educators, and professionals to help neurotypical and neurodiverse children and young adults thrive. Using a personalized, relationship-based approach founded in Floortime®, Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®), and other strength-based practices, Susan empowers parents with practical, individualized strategies that build on each child’s strengths while fostering self-confidence, adaptability, and emotional regulation. Susan has worked with many Fusion students and parents in the Los Angeles market. After relocating to Arizona, she is now happy to serve families in the East Valley.
Parenting isn’t about getting it right every time. It’s about repairing, reconnecting, and helping our children grow one interaction at a time. Be patient with your child, but be just as patient with yourself. Growth happens through small, consistent moments—not perfect ones. S.C.A.F.F.O.L.D. is a practical roadmap that helps parents move from reacting to responding while gradually building confident, capable, and independent children.
