English Department Head
Dan Mader teaches English, History, and Wellness (as well as Life Skills, etc.) and thoroughly enjoys his role as mentor, always encouraging a positive learning environment. Dan is a graduate of San Francisco State University, where he majored in Creative Writing with an emphasis in 18th Century British Literature. He started his path towards a career in education with Lindamood-Bell. This led to a six-year stint as the Reading Specialist for the ACHIEVE program in San Francisco, teaching and advocating for at-risk, minority youth.
In his spare time, Dan enjoys writing, reading, playing guitar, fishing, and riding his motorcycle to remote places. He has been published in numerous magazines and anthologies (both fiction and nonfiction) and has won several prestigious awards for his fiction. When he isn’t teaching, he is editing his latest novel or working on his bike.
More than anything, however, Dan likes to spend time with his wife and two daughters. He knows a lot of Disney songs by heart and can play almost any Disney Prince or Princess on command (as long as the commands are given by his daughters).
