Vanessa is the Director of Admissions and Outreach (DAO) for the Burlington Fusion campus. She is a native of Germany and is a self-proclaimed nomadic Citizen of the World. She received her B.A. in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and ASL/Deaf Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Vanessa went on to complete a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University. She is currently (albeit slowly) pursuing her LMHC licensure.
Before joining Fusion, Vanessa worked in Higher Education in multiple roles over the course of the last five years. Her experiences at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University and most recently MIT have given her extensive knowledge in career counseling, rapport building, event planning and counseling students in making educational (and life!) decisions. Vanessa has a passion for education that began in childhood when helping her mother, a middle school teacher, set up classrooms every summer, and then continued on through experiences with AmeriCorps and Duke University’s Summer Session in tutoring and instructing capacities. Due to her training and love for clinical work, she enjoys meeting new people and brainstorming and implementing solutions for students and their families.
Outside of school, she enjoys pursuing a variety of endeavors that focus on anything ranging from nerdy costume making (cosplay) to eventually completing her extensive summer reading list. She has even been known to snuggle her orange tabby while learning new skills through podcasts every now and again. Vanessa is stoked to be a part of founding Fusion Burlington and is very excited for the educational solutions Fusion will help provide our students!
