Uli teaches German, French, Russian, Arabic, and ESL (English as a second language) at Fusion Academy Marin. He has spent the past 26 years as an educator in environments ranging from kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school to college and postgraduate levels, from one-to-one to public and private schools as well as corporate groups in Germany, Texas, Pennsylvania, and California. While he’s taught a variety of subjects, his special emphasis has always been on world languages which he loves to teach across subjects with topics based in history, social studies, geography, and math.
As a native of East Germany, Uli studied at Leipzig University and earned an M.Ed. at Bernburg Teachers’ College, continuing with degrees in TOEFL and CALL (computer-assisted language learning).
Throughout his career, Uli has developed unique methods to bring concepts to life for students, whether through cooking demonstrations as a way to learn the German language, sharing his own passions for amateur radio and aviation as ways to demonstrate technology and science, or exploring world history through oral narratives in the target language. As part of his education work, he has developed, implemented and continually improved classroom materials, testing schemes, and blended learning methodologies. For his language students, he authored and coded an online language learning website which enables students to practice and apply their knowledge of German and/or English (ESL). Uli also has worked as a translator and interpreter, assisting in the publication of three books as well as theater productions and video documentaries.
Uli loves hiking, backpacking, photography, and flying small airplanes. He enjoys cooking wheat-free and Middle Eastern food.
