Teresa Currivan is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in children who struggle in traditional schools, including those who are gifted and twice exceptional. She graduated from The California Institute of Integral Studies with an MA in Counseling Psychology using Drama Therapy and graduated from The Psychotherapy Institute’s post-graduate training program. Teresa is a member of CAMFT and SENG (Supporting the emotional needs of the gifted.) Teresa has a private therapy practice and coaches parents at Help My Child Thrive Coaching where she works to help parents more fully understand their children’s learning, social and emotional needs. She writes about these issues and has been published in Parent.Co (now Mother.ly), as well as other publications, and is a blogger at GHF(Gifted Homeschoolers Forum). You can read her articles at HelpMyChildThrive.com. We are excited to have her join our team in Walnut Creek this year!
In the past, Teresa has worked with children and parents in the community health setting. She has also worked with mothers with addictions. While completing her master’s degree, she worked as an intern at St. Francis Hospital’s Psychiatric unit in San Francisco. Teresa’s approach is strength based and humanistic.
At our campus, Teresa works with students in one-to-one sessions and can collaborate with families and school teams to support our students. She also serves as a liaison to outside therapeutic professionals who are currently working with our families. Students can meet Teresa during her time on campus each Tuesday and can request 1:1 appointments to be added to their schedule on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. She is also available for check-ins with parents by phone or in person.
