Karen is an English and History teacher at Fusion Academy. She grew up in a family that moved frequently, often overseas, and as a result was exposed to a variety of educational curriculums and diverse cultures at a young age. She earned her International Baccalaureate at ACS in Hillingdon, England, her BA in History and Politics at Royal Holloway, University of London, and then studied education at ACT Houston.
After school, Karen worked for years in music and advertising technology, working at companies such as Pandora and SountHoune in client-facing and business development roles, while all along nursing her passion for education, tutoring and volunteering in classroom programs for inner-city kids. She found connecting with students to be so fulfilling, she decided to make teaching and mentoring her full-time career path. Karen believes that every individual has something invaluable and unique to offer the world, and believes education can help students identify their gifts and empower them with the resources, knowledge, and confidence they need to share them with the world.
In her free time, Karen plays guitar, sings, records, and writes music. Her songs have been featured in films, TV, and trailers. She also enjoys yoga, being outside, and spending time with family.
