Sara is our Special Education Lead and our Homework Cafe Teacher. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from the University of Vermont and her master’s degree in Special Education from SCSU.
Before coming to our team, Sara worked as special education teacher at Eagle Hill Southport School for 15 years. Prior to EHSS, she was teaching at Wilton High School. Additionally, she has been trained in Orton-Gillingham and Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing Programs. Sara has always been passionate about her career. She believes that once a student’s self-esteem has been amended and self-confidence restored, a genuine desire to learn takes place with a transforming and successful effect.
Sara has a creative soul and thrives when developing individualized and differentiated lessons which spark some enthusiasm within her students. These are usually activities related to comprehension in all core subjects as well as executive function skills.
Sara has two children: Mitchell (25), who’s career brought him out to California once he graduated college, and Jack (13) who is still living with her at home… and keeping her somewhat grounded.
When she’s not teaching, Sara yearns to be outdoors, especially where there is salt in the air. No matter the season, she can be found either running, swimming, skipping stones, or collecting them…….. all with sandy feet.
Not only do the waves float her boat, but thin air at high altitudes cure her attitude. She is just two jumps away from completing her 50th skydiving adventure. “If you have to sign a release form, it’s definitely worth doing ;-)!”
