Rhonda Tharp

History Teacher

Rhonda Tharp comes to Fusion Academy with 21 years of teaching experience in History, World Mythology and Gifted and Talented Programming. She grew up in the Mid-Cities and attended the University of North Texas for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. As an educator, she developed Curriculum and Instruction skills in the History and Humanities fields. In 2009-2010, Rhonda was selected to serve on the State Board of Education’s History Curriculum Review Committee. It was this experience that inspired her to go back for her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Gifted and Talented Programming. In 2011, Rhonda attended seminars offered by the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) and qualified for a Study Tour of “the Silk Road” in China. Rhonda created her own World Mythology curriculum that was taught for over a decade. The class showed that mythological elements could be found in current film and music; it showed her students that the past is relevant and relatable. Her passion for History and the Humanities is seen in her intentional lessons that develop critical thinking skills and conceptual learning. She enjoys seeing young students using strategies that help them become successful in achieving academic and personal goals.
