Music Teacher/ Mentor

Phil Carluzzo is a composer, sound designer, and music educator at Fusion DC.  He has held teaching positions at various universities including Howard, Catholic, and George Washington University where he continues to teach courses in both Film and Electronic Music composition. 
As a professional composer, he has focused primarily on composing music for film.  Recent credits include the award-winning independent film Astraea, and a new score for the classic silent art film Manhatta released on Flicker Alley’s Masterworks of American Avante-garde Experimental Film 1920-1970.  He is a founding member of the DC-based Snark Ensemble​​, with whom he has written and recorded dozens of new scores for restored silent comedies released on both DVD and on the Classical Music label, Naxos Records
Through the years he has performed throughout Washington, D.C. at venues including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The National Gallery of Art, and the Library of Congress.  As a sound designer he has worked extensively on Off-Broadway theater, and has had the privilege of working on world premiere productions by playwrights such as Adam Rapp, Lyle Kessler, Derek Ahonen, and the late Sam Shepard.  In 2011 he completed a doctorate in Music Composition from the Catholic University of America.
