Mike is the Assistant Director for Fusion Academy Los Gatos. He joins us with a wealth of school experience, having served as a high school psychology teacher, Director of Guidance Counseling, and Dean of Student Life. Mike holds a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis on Adolescent Behavior, Risk Prevention and Counseling from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development from the University of California, San Diego.
Initially, Mike thought teaching elementary school was his calling. However, experiences as a summer camp counselor and youth group advisor shifted his interest toward teenagers and healthy decision-making. After spending two years with a non-profit research institute working on a variety of projects, mostly related to either educational technology or adolescent mental health, Mike headed to graduate school to pursue a career as a practitioner. Driven by his belief that too often adolescents have something to say and yet no one to listen to them, he began his course of study that ultimately brought him to Fusion Academy.
When he’s not at work, Mike enjoys spending time with is wife Betsy, cooking, being outdoors, working out, attending concerts, and winding down with some tv time. Mike is also an avid baker; his chocolate chip banana bread has been known to quickly disappear into the mouths of hungry friends and colleagues. Additionally, he hopes to return to the guitar, which he has started and stopped a number of times, so when you see him around campus, ask if he’s been practicing.
