A native of the New York area, Matt was born on the Upper East Side and raised in New Jersey. After graduating from the University of Chicago in 2005 with a BA in Political Science, he taught in South Korea for several years, cementing a love for education along the way. Upon returning to the States, Matt enrolled in graduate school at Columbia University, where he was a member of the Center for Korean Research and the Korean Studies Group. He found that he missed teaching too much, however, and switched to Teachers College, Columbia University, where he completed a MA in the Teaching of Social Studies in 2015. Today, Matt is committed to teaching students analytical and critical thinking skills that will not just help them do well in his classes, but also serve them for the rest of their lives.
Besides his subject areas, Matt considers his obsessions in life to be music and soccer. If given a chance, he will happily talk for hours about his favorite albums in genres ranging from hip-hop to heavy metal, and has been known to be very vocally opinionated about the current state of the American and Italian national teams.
