Mario is a native of São Paulo, Brazil. Ever since he can remember, he has had an interest in languages, the natural world, and numbers. He started studying English when he was 6 years old and later on he started learning Japanese and Spanish. Mario attended the University of São Paulo, Brazil’s best university, where he received a Bachelor of Science in biology. As an undergraduate, he received a prestigious national scholarship from the Brazilian government to study abroad at the University of California, Santa Barbara. While studying abroad, Mario worked as an intern at UCSB’s Chandler Center for Ecological Restoration where he cataloged a teaching collection of California plants specimens.
Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Mario pursued his Master of Science at the University of São Paulo where he received his degree in plant biology and wrote a thesis on the physiology and anatomy of the germination of red seaweed spores. During his graduate degree, Mario worked as a teaching assistant for a university level botany course. Mario has worked extensively as a science and math tutor in both São Paulo and New York City and enjoys helping students achieve their academic potential.

Hobbies: Cooking, eating, volunteering, learning new languages, home improvement.
