Maria Diana is the Special Education Lead as well as, teacher of English, World Languages. Dance and Test Prep, such as ISEE/SAT/ACT. She acts as a consultant to other Fusion teachers, and also works one-to-one with students for-credit and tutorial format, with a focus on remediation, foundational literacy, executive functioning, and social cognition. You’ll often find her having fun with students – playing skill building games or finding creative ways to remediate a reading challenge.
Maria has always been drawn to working with students who find school and testing frustrating. Spent summers as a youth counselor for the YMCA, and in college, tutoring formerly for private clients at their homes. It just made sense that she would end up working in the field of Special Education. She has been a Lindamood-Bell, Wilson and Orton-Gillingham certified practitioner since 2013, and has earned her B.A. in English Literature from Rider University and is certified as a middle school and high school teacher. Maria has currently earned a Master Degree in Special Education with an endorsement as a Reading Intervention Specialist from Western Canyon University.
Prior to joining Fusion, Maria has worked in the public school districts in Bergen and Morris County. She was the former Director of Education at Huntington Learning Center, which helped plan curriculum for their students. While there, Maria helped in implementing a new test prep for SAT/ACT/ISEE. Her time there was helpful in understanding what foundational skills students are missing when trying to prepare for standardized test.
While she was pursuing her undergraduate from Rider University, Maria spent time pursuing a associates degree in dance, she danced with the Princeton Ballet School and was captain of her college dance team. While she is away from her amazing students at Fusion, Maria enjoys reading, walking her dog, Sammy, and spending time with family and friends.
