Lujean comes from a family of teachers. Her paternal grandparents were teachers and her mother was a teacher. Lujean has taught over 25 years in the public school system and was ready for a change! She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1988 and she received her teacher’s certificate from Houston Baptist University the same year. Lujean is certified to teach Theatre and English in Texas. She has taught theatre in middle and high school, primarily in Alief ISD. In addition to teaching and directing in schools, Lujean has directed in the community at both Country Playhouse (now Queensbury Theatre) and Masquerade Theatre.
Lujean was born in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents met at Texas Tech, married and had Lujean before her father, Lynn, went into the army. Her father named her Lujean because it was her mother’s name flipped (Jeannie Lou)! After her father was lost in Vietnam, her mother remarried and became an elementary reading and art teacher. The new family ended up in Houston when Lujean was in the 4th grade and has been here ever since.
In her spare time, Lujean likes to watch TV, go to movies with friends, snuggle with her two cats (Butler and Mitchel), spend time with her mother, and cross stich. She is thrilled to begin a new phase of her teaching career at Fusion Academy where she hopes she can make a difference in children’s lives!
