Laurie Woods joins us as an English/Reading Specialist Teacher-Mentor. Laurie is a native of Washington, DC who moved back to the city after time in New York City and Oxford, Mississippi. Laurie holds a Bachelor’s in English Literature and Psychology from Wesleyan University. In 2018, she earned her Masters of Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Literacy and Reading Education from George Washington University. She also holds a Doctorate in Linguistics from New York University and loves hearing and imitating different American English accents. Laurie’s experience includes serving as a reading clinician at Lindamood-Bell, a teacher and tutor for Kaplan, and a teacher and teacher assistant in a wide range of educational settings, including Montessori schools. She is passionate about spreading the joy of reading to all students. She loves reading – some favorite authors are Willa Cather, Margaret Atwood and Agatha Christie. She also loves movies, both contemporary and classic. A crossword puzzle fiend, she tries to do the New York Times crossword every day.
