Laurie joined the Fusion family in 2018 and is really excited to work with students and instill the confidence and ambition in them that several of her high school teachers did when she a teenager. Born on an air force base in St. Louis and raised in the DFW area, she always knew she would love Austin and has loved every square inch of the city since moving here on a whim in 2012.
The daughter of a pilot, she was blessed with travel benefits growing up and credits her travels to a huge part of her education and upbringing. In between living in Africa, Thailand, Switzerland and stopping to visit almost every city in between, she earned a B.S. in Statistics and a B.S. in Sociology from Brigham Young University. After graduating, she moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue a M.S in Survey Methodology from the University of Maryland (Go Terps!) and began her first grown up job at the Census Bureau before graduating in 2006. After interning with the United Nations and working for the CDC, she moved on to medical research with a large hospital corporation but still hadn’t felt like she had truly found her calling. As much as she enjoyed working in different aspects of research, nothing fulfilled her as much as teaching Statistics classes at Park University, a school geared to aide military personnel finish their degrees. She truly is passionate about teaching and helping students stretch their limits on what they can achieve and feel empowered while learning.
She has her own small photography business and her hobbies include greyhound rescue, professional dog-lover as a volunteer at the animal shelter, hiking and of course, traveling.
