Kristen is a native of the DMV area. She started her life-long career in education as a high school social studies teacher in Baltimore County 21 years ago, where she was named “Rookie Teacher of the Year!” Throughout her educational career, Kristen has served thousands of middle and high school students and their families in Baltimore, Montgomery and Alexandria City Public Schools. Some of her favorite opportunities with students included teaching NSL Government, Sociology, and Student Leadership; coaching girls’ and boys’ varsity volleyball; serving as the Student Government Association (SGA) advisor; sponsoring Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD); and being the advisor for the Breakdancing Club. During the early years of her career, Kristen was a learning facilitator for the Quantum Learning Network (QLN) and traveled to Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada and Mexico to teach learning and life skills to students across the globe. During this time, she received extensive training in brain-based learning strategies, Multiple Intelligences, Learning Modalities and Experiential Learning. This pedagogical foundation and experience afforded Kristen opportunities to provide professional development and coaching to teachers and administrators across North America. After earning her Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision for Secondary Education at McDaniel College, Kristen worked in the private and non-profit arena as a Curriculum Developer, Director of Training and Leadership, Director of Education, and Director of Student Leader Engagement. One of her favorite roles was with the Education Division at USA TODAY where she developed reading programs that integrated the newspaper and a national service project, Lead2Feed.
Kristen is known for her passion, enthusiasm and positive attitude! She has intentionally devoted her time to educational organizations that genuinely care for students and want to help them reach their greatest potential. Kristen still gets to teach when she volunteers at her church as a 5th grade teacher. She is the proud “mommy” of a 10-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy. She met her husband at a 4th of July picnic and they were married on the 4th of July!
