Karla came to Fusion with a passion to work with young people. She has had a love of teaching since her time as an undergrad at John Jay College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a double minor in Criminology and Government. While pursuing her degree, Karla’s many sociology classes allowed her to work with adolescents in varying aspects, quickly strengthening her desire for a more professional setting to work with them. She continues to pursue her passion both within Fusion and through her volunteer work, where she serves as a mentor for children of different ages.
Karla’s favorite part about being the Director of Homework Café is the ability to interact, mentor, and support all Fusion students in any way they need. She also loves creating social opportunities for the students. Aside from Homework Café Director, she is also able to transfer her love of the Spanish culture through her teaching of the language. Karla has traveled to various Spanish-speaking countries including Spain, Guatemala, Costa Rica and her native country, Mexico. In her spare time, she enjoys playing and watching soccer with family and friends as well as traveling and exploring outside of her comfort zone.
