John joined Fusion in 2018 as a Latin, History, and English teacher. He has a B.A. in Classics from Loyola College and an M.A. and PhD. in Classics from Northwestern University. John brings 18 years of experience in education and advising from New Trier High School, where he taught Latin and Roman History to students at every grade and level. He was also an award-winning lecturer and instructor at Northwestern, where he specialized in ancient epic poetry. His greatest moment, however, was working as editor on the Latin translation of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat.
John was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and has lived in Evanston for the past 25 years. When not in the classroom, he can be found cooking, biking, or traversing the great outdoors. But he loves to spend time with his dogs the most. John trains and handles his own pointing dogs, and is a licensed Field Judge (pointing breeds) for the American Kennel Club. And as he often finds himself explaining to people whom he meets for the first time, yes, his life at one time did look exactly like the comedy Best in Show.
John likes any good read, southern barbecue, horseback riding, and traveling just about anywhere.
