James Hatem brings many years of experience and expertise to Fusion. He first attended Florida Institute of Technology where he studied Mechanical Engineering. After some years of engineering work, James then went back to school to earn a degree in Physical Anthropology/Primatology at California State University, Northridge. He went on to earn a California Teaching Credential in Physical Sciences from the same University and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
His teaching experience includes 18 years at Los Angeles High School where he taught Physics, Chemistry, Math, Biology, and several other electives. He also taught for three years at The North Hollywood Highly Gifted Magnet. For nearly his entire teaching career, James successfully coached his school’s Academic Decathlon teams, earning awards and commendations for high achievement from both the City of Los Angeles and the State of California.
James has won the Los Angels Rotary Club Teacher of the Year award, twice been nominated for the Disney National Teacher of the Year, and was honored by the Los Angels Unified School District as the Academic Decathlon Coach of the Year.
Hobbies: His interests are very eclectic. He has been a self-proclaimed science geek his entire life. At a very early age it was not uncommon for him to get home from a sojourn around the neighborhood with pockets containing an assortment of rocks, plants, insects and frogs. Much to his mother’s dismay, many of these ended up in the washing machine.
