Erik was born and raised in Berkeley, California where he grew up speaking French with his family. From a young age, he would often visit family in France where his mother grew up. Erik starting playing music in elementary school, and picked up the bass at age 11. At Berkeley High School, he auditioned into the school’s renowned Jazz Ensemble, where he started on his path towards being a professional musician.
With upright and electric bass as his primary instruments, Erik graduated from UCLA in 2015 with a B.A. in Ethnomusicology concentrated on Jazz Composition and a B.S. degree in Cognitive Science. Since graduating, he’s worked at a startup in Santa Monica on an app focused on music education. He’s also continued to work as a professional bassist in Los Angeles since he moved here.
In his spare time, Erik enjoys practicing, composing, rock climbing, and spending time outside. He currently plays in a band called the Nick Valentini Collective that frequently plays live shows in the LA area.
