Elena (Laney) Potovsky is the Special Education Lead at Fusion Academy Marin. She acts as a consultant to other Fusion teachers, and also works one-to-one with students in a for-credit and tutorial format, with a focus on remediation, foundational literacy, executive functioning, and social cognition. You’ll often find her having fun with students – playing skill building games or finding creative ways to remediate a reading challenge.
Laney has always been drawn to working with an at-risk population: spending summers as a youth counselor for the YMCA, and in college, tutoring formerly incarcerated adults at Delancey Street Foundation. It just made sense that she would end up working in the field of Special Education. She has been a Lindamood-Bell practitioner since 1996, and has earned her Special Education Credential, Elementary Credential and Master of Science in Special Education from Dominican University of California.
Having been enamored of world languages from a young age, Laney discovered an innate talent for speaking French in the sixth grade. She then went on to learn Danish, Mandarin, and French. She got her B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature in 1985, punctuated by a year studying at a university in Taipei, Taiwan. Her travels have taken her to Asia, Europe, and The Caribbean. Her favorite destination so far is Havana, Cuba!
Laney has spent years as a stage mom, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a beach comber. She and her sweetheart love to try new restaurants, practice yoga, and hang out with family and friends.
