As the Director of Homework Café at Fusion Dallas, Drew is here to support students to feel safe, empowered and motivated to be and do their best. In 2006 he graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Ethnic Studies, then moved to Washington DC to attend the only Deaf university in the world, Gallaudet University. For his thesis he created an award winning American Sign Language (ASL) based documentary about a Deaf trans* student who was being bullied at school. In 2008 he graduated summa cum laude with his Master’s degree in Deaf Cultural Studies.
Drew has served as a mentor, group facilitator and teacher in a number of capacities. He spent a year volunteering with AmeriCorps City Year Philadelphia, where he mentored and ran after school programs for at risk high school students. After welcoming his first child in 2009, he opened and ran a mindfulness based child care home for several years, training his teachers in his compassionate, fun approach to education. In 2015 he moved his family back home to Dallas, where he has been mentoring, teaching ASL, and offering meditation instruction. In his free time he enjoys traveling and camping with his kids, reading, and playing the piano.
