Donelyn joins Fusion Academy this year as a Math and Science Teacher/Mentor with a mission to cultivate excitement for STEM. She is a West Coast transplant from the land of rain and coffee (Seattle, WA), where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering with Interdisciplinary Honors from the University of Washington. Throughout college she mentored a variety of students as a Resident Adviser and leader of clubs within the engineering and honors program.
Defining moments on her career path include a social justice study abroad to Bangalore, India and an internship with Intel Corp. Before moving to the DC area, Donelyn worked at a high school in Newark, NJ as the Math Teaching Assistant. During those two years, she organized Pi Day and Earth Day celebrations as well as supervised the school’s first Girls Who Code club. Though her interests range from the sciences to the humanities (and everything in between), she especially enjoys the challenge and reward of teaching.
In her free time, Donelyn strives to explore new places, watch stop motion movies, visit museums, create art, read books that inspire her to write, sample new foods, and, most importantly, continue learning.
