Cheryl Kalkirtz, M.Ed., MRes., COPAA
Director of Student Development
Ms. Kalkirtz is an experienced school administrator, educational leader and a multi-certified Learning and Behavioral Intervention Specialist with years of diverse educational experiences. She has spent her career supporting what’s best for kids through school improvement and professional learning communities for city-wide, charter and public school districts. Before she arrived to the Fusion family, she served as a charter school network Director of Specialized Services, for Special Education; ELL and Title; Response to Intervention and Health Services for K-12 grade students and up to 33 schools throughout seven states in the Midwest. Proudly, Cheryl is also a Disabilities Advocate as a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates. Ms. Kalkirtz earned her Master of Education Degree from DePaul University (Chicago, Illinois) in Educational Leadership/ School Administration and her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northeastern Illinois University (Chicago, Illinois) for Teaching with a triple Special Education Major and a Minor in Journalism and is pursuing her Doctorate of Education Degree through the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She is super proud of her own children, Rachael, who has recently become an Early Childhood Special Education teacher and Timothy, who is majoring in Political Science and also works for a special recreational group of park districts for clients with disabilities. Lovingly, she is the co-guardian for her sister, who is profoundly disabled. Cheryl loves to sing and performs with friends and family. She enjoys hiking with her boxer dog Heatley and has a little Jack Russell Terrier named Mindy. Cheryl loves visiting with her family in The Ozarks where karaoke goes from Country music to Classic Rock, bringing a Chicago vibe down there. Yee-haw!
