At Fusion Academy, Caitlyn Pezza teaches and tutors students in English, Language Arts, Literature, Poetry, Philosophy and History. She also assists students with their classwork in the Homework Café.
Caitlyn gained her Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida with a double major in Communication with a concentration in Advertising, and English Literature and Creative Writing with minors in Business, and Classics. She then moved to New York City to attend The New School and complete her Masters of Fine Arts degree in Poetry with an additional focus in philosophy, minimalism, and revision. During her course of study, she was involved with a digital mapping project partnered with Parson’s School of Design, and visited the New York School poet, John Ashbery’s, home in Hudson curating and annotating the art and objects in his home as well as his poems. She is heavily interested in the topics of history, philosophy and religion and worked closely with poet, historian, and philosopher Jennifer Michael Hecht, author of Doubt a history, The Happiness Myth, The End of the Soul, Stay and award-winning poetry collections The Next Ancient World and Funny. Caitlyn is completing a second Master’s in Adolescent English Education at CUNY. Her poetry has been featured in The Best American Poetry, Espresso Ink, and Able Muse Press.
In addition to teaching, tutoring and mentoring at Fusion, Caitlyn teaches creative writing, marketing and journalism to elementary school students at PS 183 and PS 40 Elementary. She has worked as a teaching artist for the past three years and has also served as a teaching assistant at Florida State University, The New School, and the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. Caitlyn has additional experience working in the creative department at WDAD Communications in London, one of the UK’s leading recruitment advertising agencies, and Red Hills Motion Picture Releasing, a film distribution agency in Tallahassee, Florida that serves one of the country’s top film schools. She has taught film marketing to undergraduate students at Florida State, and served as an editor for The Southeast Review.
When Caitlyn is not teaching or writing, she can be found swimming or running in Brooklyn. Caitlyn swam competitively for fifteen years. She enjoys tacos very much and goes on a yearly “taco tour” in the summer where she and friends visit all of the best taco spots in the city. Caitlyn was born and raised in West Palm Beach Florida and travels home often to visit her four sisters, her parents, and ten dogs. She LOVES dogs! Caitlyn is a beach-bum at heart and enjoys swimming off the Florida coast and spending time with friends and family more than most anything else. She is passionate about music and attending music festivals. She loves to travel and experience foreign countries, especially those of the third-world. Last summer she spent a month in the Dominican Republic at a friend’s farm house in the mountains, and toured most of the peninsula. As she is also a great lover of cities, her goal is to visit every metropolitan center in the world. At the moment, Caitlyn’s biggest excitement is becoming an aunt for the first time in September.
