Ashley is excited to join Fusion Academy Brooklyn as a Social Studies/English teacher! Ashley was born and raised in sunny Southern California. In 2006, she earned her B.A. in Communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2008, she went on to earn her California Teaching Credential and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of California, Riverside. After finishing school, Ashley moved with her husband, Kyle, to Philadelphia, PA. While there, Ashley earned Pennsylvania Certification in Social Studies, English and Citizenship and worked as a Social Studies Teacher, English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor and Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor. Since moving to New York City in 2011, Ashley has worked as a High School Social Studies Teacher, a Substitute Teacher, a SAT Teacher and a Regents Exam Teacher.
Ashley is a third generation History teacher, and, like her grandfather and mother before her, she has a passion for uncovering the past and working with teenagers. Ashley is a firm believer in student-centered instruction and the “one-size-does-not-fit-all” philosophy of education.
When not teaching, Ashley enjoys singing and acting. In fact, she has worked professionally as a musical theatre performer in New York City and across the U.S. She also loves exploring the city, seeing Broadway shows, dining out and spending time with her husband, family and friends.
