Alex was born in Illinois, but spent most of his childhood in Southern California. Early on he developed a love for team sports and music, shooting hoops and playing in recitals. In 2010 he graduated from UC Irvine with a B.A. in Economics and it was there he first experienced the transformational power of community as a mentor for the Student Parent Orientation Program and Cross-Cultural Center. In the ensuing years he developed an inclination for working with youth, and was blessed with an opportunity in the education outreach department at Roadtrip Nation – a PBS documentary series that highlights stories about professionals and young people pursuing fulfilling careers. Alex completed two tours RVing across 27 states, speaking at educational institutions and empowering students to pursue passionate, purpose-driven work. It was on the road Alex realized his calling to serve in education.
He’s been a private-school teacher and director for 5 years, teaching math, life skills, conflict resolution, and fostering students’ social & emotional growth. With a group of friends from university, Alex co-founded Eayikes, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to build self-esteem and community for youth from all walks of life. In addition to youth-empowerment camps and field trips for youth, Eayikes uses the arts as a platform to engage young professionals in community-building and service, which also provides Alex a creative outlet to share his love of music through DJing.
