Aily Roper is a Japanese language teacher at Fusion Academy! She was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and attended international schools until she decided to sprint around the world to attend Oberlin College, where she received a B.A. in Political Science and Theater. She’s spent many years tutoring and teaching English to Japanese and vice versa, and also occasionally works as a freelance translator.
She is half-Japanese (mom’s side!), and is very passionate about teaching Japanese as a language that comes hand in hand with the ever-evolving, nuanced culture and history of Japan. Her favorite part of the Japanese language and culture is that “yes” sometimes means “no,” “maybe” usually means “no,” and “no” is rarely, if ever, used. If you, too, find beauty in the ambiguity of the language – let’s chat about it!
When she is not teaching, she can be found acting on stage, and more recently, on screen! She also loves binge-watching TV on Netflix, gardening, fun little projects, dancing, and traveling!
