Noreen is excited to being joining the Fusion Brooklyn family as a full time substitute teacher.
Noreen is a native of the Hudson Valley and has a B.A. in Performance from SUNY New Paltz. In 2007, Noreen received her M.A. in Theatre Education at Emerson College. After graduation, Noreen began actively seeking opportunities to work with urban youth from underserved communities in Boston, MA. Additionally, she worked for two summers as a teaching artist for Citi Performing Arts Center, a major theatre company in Boston. Funded by foundation grants, this program provided a free theatre enrichment programming for middle school students throughout Boston.
Noreen gained the majority of her initial teaching experience taking part in a year-long internship at the Boston Arts Academy (Boston’s public high school for the fine and performing arts). Noreen also worked for almost three years at Phoenix Charter Academy, a charter school in Chelsea, MA serving students who were previous high school drop-outs, court-involved, teen parents, or not achieving in traditional public schools. For the past 3 years, Noreen has taught English Language Arts at a small independent charter middle school in Brooklyn, NY.
Currently Noreen is working on building her non-profit summer theatre program Shake It Out, Inc. Shake It Out is a small program aimed at bringing teen girls from underserved neighborhoods in Brooklyn and NYC to experience storytelling and theater in a creative, supportive and beautiful setting in upstate NY. We will run our second week long program this summer in partnership with the SUNY New Paltz theater department!
In her free time Noreen loves spending time with her husband, two beautiful children and two dogs. She enjoys running, singing, listening to Broadway musical soundtracks, camping and being outdoors as much as possible.
