Eduardo Melendez-Hellebuyck

English & History Department Head

Ed attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara where he received a Bachelor’s in History with a focus on English History. Ed also spent some time at Oxford University, England taking graduate courses in poetry, Victorian literature, and creative writing. While in Santa Barbara he worked both at a private K-8 school and the Santa Barbara School District as an Aide and Language Specialist focusing primarily on ELL students.

Prior to coming to Fusion, Ed worked at Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco. While at Larkin Street he managed various housing programs, emergency services, and education/employment departments that served formerly homeless young people ages 18-24. He also worked with the Center for Employment Opportunities in downtown Oakland, a program that provided job readiness, career education and life skills courses for men and women on parole in Alameda County.

Ed loves reading and writing poetry, he meets regularly with a group of local poets who read their work aloud at a café. Ed also enjoys rooting for his favorite teams, the Celtics, the Warriors, and the 49ers. At home, Ed enjoys playing his drum set, watching TVs shows like Sherlock, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, and reading novels and poetry books. He is always looking for an excuse to visit friends in NYC, England, and Germany. Ed is a former basketball and plays regular pick-up games and in organized leagues around town. Ed also DJs (vinyl) only around town.

In his younger years Ed played American Football in Vienna, Austria, he also spent part of his childhood in El Salvador and England, ask him about it.
