(Chicago– May 25, 2022) Families confounded by the college admission process can keep calm and carry on next week when Fusion Academy Evanston hosts North Shore College Counselor Matt Baker for a free event that will help families navigate the post-secondary application process.
“College is hard enough to navigate without a pandemic that upended the last three school years for next year’s seniors,” said Kevin Holbrook, Director of Outreach at Fusion Academy. “We’re excited to host Matt and support families seeking clarity about college admissions.”

“The Class of 2023 will be the first graduating class whose entire high school education was impacted by the pandemic,” said Baker. “We understand the anxiety, fear, and confusion about preparing for college, and we are grateful that Fusion Academy will bring this to the community.”
Prior to co-founding Riley Baker Educational Consulting, Matt Baker worked in public education as a teacher and supported college counseling and coaching. Matt earned his B.S. in Education at the University of New Hampshire, where he later also earned his M. ED. in Special Education. Matt has an experiential understanding of the pressure’s students confront in school as well as in selecting a college – stresses that are often multiplied for the student-athlete.
Families can expect to learn how to:
- Demystify the college application process.
- Understand the benefits of curriculum planning.
- Navigate the pressures of high school.
- Acquire clarity about the changes in standardized testing.
- Create balanced lists of “reach”, “target”, and “likely” colleges and universities.
- Develop a student’s “hook” to highlight strengths.
