Sosena Aseffa

Sosena is a teacher and a mentor for Math and Science students. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Texas. She has a passion for providing young people with the tools they need to survive in the real world.

When she was in High School Sosena was a member of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID).  AVID is a mentoring program designed to prepare students for college and success in a global society.  She was inspired by the difference AVID made in her life, so she set out to make a difference in other peoples’ lives.

She is a current member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.  As an alpha woman, serving her community and volunteering are at the top of her priorities.  She takes off work every Friday to volunteer at Parkland Memorial Hospital where she visits pre-surgery patients to offer emotional and spiritual support per patient’s request.

During her free time she likes to spend the day shopping or at the spa!  On a good day she also enjoys going to the gym or for a run.  Sosena is adventurous when it comes to food and loves trying authentic cuisine.  She also enjoys spontaneous trips; hey who needs a plan when you can just go where the wind takes you!
